STATSRAAD LEHMKUHL to Visit Norfolk March 4-13 and Host Public Tours

Norfolk, VA – The Class A international tail ship STATSRAAD LEHMKUHL (321’), hailing from Norway, is set to arrive along the Downtown Norfolk Waterfront for an extended stay from Wednesday, March 4, 2020 to Friday, March 13, 2020.

The STATSRAAD LEHMKUHL, a three-masted steel barque sail training vessel, is visiting Norfolk for the second consecutive year and the 15th overall. The Norwegian vessel will be open for public tours on Saturday, March 7, 2020 and Sunday, March 8, 2020 from 10am to 3pm. All dates and times are subject to change.

Built in 1914 as a training ship for the German merchant marines, the STATSRAAD LEHMKUHL is currently sailed by the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy’s first-year cadets who participate in leadership and team-building training. While on board, the cadets work together as a team to overcome the timeless challenges and dangers of traveling the seas by sail without modern technology. Strollers are not permitted on board the ship. Entry and exit Ramps are not equipped to accommodate wheel chairs, walkers, or other types of mobility equipment requiring a flat and solid surface or hard hand rails.

The STATSRAAD LEHMKUHL is the first of three Class A international tall ships scheduled to visit Norfolk in 2020. Additional visiting ships include BAE GUAYAS (Ecuador) (May 16-19) and CAPITAN MIRANDA (Uruguay) (June 2-8), which will headline the annual Parade of Sail on Friday of the 44th Annual Norfolk Harborfest Music, Food & Maritime Festival (June 5-7).

Norfolk Festevents is the official host of Sail 250 Norfolk in the summer of 2026.
