Deep Ocean Exhibition Makes United States Debut

Voyage to the Deep Arrives in America; Premieres at Nauticus

Norfolk, Va.— Undersea exploration awaits Hampton Roads families this fall as Voyage to the Deep: Underwater Adventures makes its United States debut at Nauticus on Saturday, September 19th. Voyage to the Deep is a 6,000 square-foot exhibition produced and developed by the Australian National Maritime Museum, and based on French author Jules Verne’s 1870 classic, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The adventure also serves as a supplement to classroom curriculums and STEM learning. Families and students will learn how to operate simple machines, gain a better understanding of the natural environment (life cycles, habitats, and sea animals), and more fully appreciate the importance of maritime resources.

“At Flying Fish, together with our partner at Australian National Maritime Museum, we’ve long anticipated the U.S. premiere of this exhibition,” said Jay Brown, Principal & Managing Director of Flying Fish Exhibits. “We’re pleased to be working with Nauticus to present Voyage to the Deep to North American audiences for the first time before it continues its tour throughout the continent over the next several years.”
The experience is anchored by an enormous Nautilus submarine, complete with a periscope, propellers, a control station and Captain Nemo’s marine specimens. For those brave enough to venture outside the submarine, Voyage to the Deep also features an octopus garden, a kelp forest, a code-cracking station, and a colossal squid floating high overhead.

“It’s been a tremendously challenging year for families,” said Nauticus’ executive director, Stephen E. Kirkland. “Our goal is to present a very safe, very unique opportunity for local families to play and learn together.”

Timed tickets are now available by visiting www.nauticus.org. Exhibition capacity is limited to 50 guests, and masks are required. All components of Voyage to the Deep will be cleaned during and after each group.

Tickets to Voyage to the Deep are $10.00 per person; combo tickets may be purchased for $15.95 per person, and include admission to the Battleship Wisconsin. In addition to the experience itself, Nauticus will also offer Birthday and Small Group Celebration packages for groups of 12 or less, featuring exclusive access. For families looking to enjoy this adventure virtually, Nauticus will host a FREE Voyage to the Deep at Home Curious Kids STEM-ulating activity on Sunday, September 20th.
