The American Rover offers one and a half hour educational cruises departing from Norfolk’s Waterside. Hands-on activities enable students to become active participants in the learning adventure. 

The Program is aligned with Virginia Standards of Learning.
Hands-on activities enable students to become active participants in the learning adventure.

  • On board students will:

    • Set the sails

    • Steer the ship

    • Learn how the Captain navigates

    • Hear stories of Mariner History and Life

    • Learn about early Virginian and Colonial Life

    • Tie Sailor Knots

    • Interact in Group Activities

    • Learn the History of Ships and Sailing

    • Take part in a demonstration of why ships float

    • Investigate the effects of wind, weather, moon and stars on sailing.

      $9.00 per student
      One comp per each 25 students
      60 passengers minimum/120 passenger maximum
      Available April - November
