PORTSMOUTH

The city celebrated Coast Guard Day and kicked off its annual Coast Guard City celebration Wednesday morning with a ceremony at High Street Landing.

The ceremony included an aircraft flyover, a band with singers, speakers and the Color Guard, according to the city’s website.

The five-day celebration, which will include a concert by the Counting Crows, a bike tour and other events, continues through Sunday, according to the site.

For a complete list of events and times, visit the city’s website.  The Coast Guard also plans to open vessels for the public to visit. For a list of days, times and vessels, visit the agency's website.

The city was named a Coast Guard City last year, sharing the distinction with eight other communities across the country. The city is the headquarters to the Coast Guard’s Atlantic Area and 5th District.
