The 3rd Annual Opera in the Park Concert Takes Center Stage in Town Point Park

NORFOLK, VA. (September 6, 2011) – The Virginia Opera in partnership with Norfolk Festevents  & Wells Fargo are pleased to present the 3rd Annual Opera in the Park Concert this Saturday, September 10, 2011, from 6pm-8pm, at Town Point Park on the Downtown Norfolk Waterfront. Concert goers are invited to arrive early at 4pm for family friendly fun & activities. The 3rd Annual Opera in the Park Concert is free and everyone is welcome!
New for 2011, the 3rd Annual Opera in the Park Concert features a family friendly activities area where children of all ages can join in the fun from 4pm-6pm. Explore Virginia Opera’s four productions for the 2011-2012 season through larger-than-life interactive displays. Visit the Opera's behind-the-scenes exhibits and the opportunity to capture the best seats on the lawn. Learn more about opera, meet directors, singers, and the amazing individuals that make opera happen. Listen to a special performance by Virginia Children's Chor us at 4:30pm.Enjoy face painting and other interactive programs conducted by Virginia Symphony, Norfolk Public Library, Virginia Opera, Salem High School, and Soundscapes who are all participating and adding to the fun.
At 6pm the curtains will rise and the melodious sounds of the Virginia Opera will take center stage as beautiful music fills the air along the Elizabeth River. The concert will feature Virginia Opera singers including; soprano Mary Elizabeth Williams, mezzo-soprano Jeniece Golbourne, tenor Gustavo Lopez Manzitti, and other talented singers from Virginia Opera's production of Verdi's AIDA, thirty-six Virginia Opera Choristers and as many as thirty-eight Choristers from The Governor's School of the Arts. The concert will include the world's most popular music ever composed; from Broadway melodies to breathtaking opera arias and ensembles.
Wear your Bermudas and flip flops to this family friendly event and don’t forget the lawn chairs and blankets to picnic as the sun sets over the Elizabeth River. Coolers, food and non-alcoholic beverages are permitted. No alcohol or glass is permitted. Food and beverage will be available for purchase. Proceeds from beer and wine sales will benefit the Virginia Opera.
