Navy offers holiday tours of Arleigh Burke at Nauticus By Lauren King The Virginian-Pilot © July 1, 2011 NORFOLK The guided missile destroyer Arleigh Burke will spend Independence Day weekend at Nauticus in commemoration of its 20th anniversary. The ship and its crew will pull up pierside this afternoon and host public tours Saturday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Navy said. The Arleigh Burke was commissioned at the same pier 20 years ago in a ceremony that celebrated its 95-year-old namesake. The weekend will also feature crew and veteran events, including a reunion dinner, memorial services and the dedication of an "Arleigh Burke at Sea Memorial." Visitors are advised not to wear open-toed shoes or sandals. Flip-flops will not be allowed. The tour is not designed for strollers or small children.
